In a world where digital transformation is taking place rapidly and mobility is increasing day by day, protecting personal data and complying with the laws has become one of the most important priorities for companies.
With the increasing digitalisation of the world, data processing, storage and transfer have become inevitable. This has led many countries to join international privacy laws or enact new data protection laws of their own to protect the data of their citizens.
The General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), which is implemented in European Union countries, affects not only EU countries but also countries outside the EU borders.“GDPR”Some countries, including Turkey, are creating their own data protection laws by taking GDPR as an example.

UK: After Brexit, a new draft data protection law is being prepared under the leadership of the ICO, the UK Data Protection Authority. It is known that the draft will be compatible with the GDPR and that the UK will adapt the GDPR to its domestic law, so compliance with the GDPR will continue.
China: In the People's Republic of China, there is no single and comprehensive law on data protection, and multiple laws are applied simultaneously. However, the Personal Data Protection Law (“PIPL”), which has been expected to enter into force in the People's Republic of China for some time, entered into force on 1 November 2021. The PIPL is the first law in the People's Republic of China to regulate personal information protection at the national level. It does not replace previous laws and regulations, but improves and clarifies them.
USA: There is no single overarching data protection law in the United States, but there are many state-level privacy and data security laws that overlap with federal laws. Many businesses operating in the US must comply not only with applicable federal laws, but also with a number of state privacy and security laws and regulations.
In the state of California alone, there are more than 25 data security and privacy laws. One of them is the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”).
Mexico: Mexico's Personal Data Protection Law (“Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de los Particulares”) entered into force on 6 July 2010. This Law applies only to natural and legal persons who process personal data and does not apply to the government, credit reporting companies subject to the Credit Reporting Law or persons who use personal data exclusively for their personal purposes, unless disclosed for commercial purposes.
Turkey: The Personal Data Protection Law (“KVKK”) entered into force on 7 April 2016. With the entry into force of the Law, certain obligations of data controllers have emerged in the field of personal data protection and it is inevitable to act in accordance with these obligations due to the active role of the Personal Data Protection Authority in the implementation of the Law.
